Their presentation is entitled: “ICD-10 Prepare for the Unexpected,” and will cover how radiology management should use the additional time created by the ICD-10 implementation delay to prepare for the new coding system’s impact on their operations, beginning October 2014.
The presentation will address in detail the significant and specific impact of ICD-10 on radiology practices, and suggestions will be offered on how radiology management might deal with these challenges. The presentation will also address the impact of the 155,000 codes in ICD-10 as opposed to ICD-9’s 17,000 codes; the effects of ICD-10-PCS (Procedure Coding System) which consists of 72,081 codes will also be covered. Organization of the new coding system will be discussed, as well as a humorous look at some of the more arcane codes, such as “being struck by a bird.”
In addition, the presentation will address the benefits of the new ICD-10 system to patients, payers and providers. Benefits for patients will include enhanced tracking and trending of diseases; payer benefits will be achieved through better utilization management and innovations in payment design and contracting; and provider benefits will be realized through improved care coordination, more effective case management and improved utilization management.
